"some people will inspire you with their sense of responsibility, their ability to react to situations with grace and elegance, and their willingness to care for the community"

Very nice, really spiritual words!
Good work! :-)

Jono,

You've hit on the issue that is at the heart of every type of community, from social groups to development communities.

Without trust, you go absolutely nowhere fast. Being open and transparent is tough for some groups (mainly corporate/govt. entities). It is interesting you posted this chapter when you did, because I've been thinking about the trust thing a lot with a community I'm currently building.

Folks can feel free to check out my thoughts on trust here:

http://blogs.open.collab.net/oncollabnet/2009/01/trust-in-commun.html

I'd love to hear comments there (or here) on practical ways folks go about building and maintaining trust in their communities. I don't know if you have such examples in the book Jono - I'm hoping you do. ;)

Looking forward to the next snippet! :)
